International Operations Specialist

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented International Operations Specialist / Import Air & Ocean Agent to join our team in the Los Angeles/Long Beach/LAX market, with the opportunity to work hybrid or possibly remote. This role is responsible for coordinating international air and ocean import and export shipments from initiation through final delivery while ensuring exceptional customer service and operational efficiency.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in international freight forwarding and hands-on experience managing import and export shipments across both air and ocean modes. This position requires daily communication with clients, airlines, steamship lines, overseas agents, truckers, warehouses, customs brokers, and other partners to ensure timely movement, clearance, and delivery of freight.

This is a fast-paced operations role requiring strong organizational skills, attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and the capability to manage multiple shipments simultaneously while being knowledgeable with TSA compliance, Customs aspects, FMC, AES, and other regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

  • 3–5+ years of experience in international air and ocean freight forwarding operations preferred
  • Strong knowledge of international import and export procedures for both air and ocean freight
  • Experience handling FCL, LCL, and air freight shipments
  • Familiarity with customs clearance processes, exams, holds, and regulatory compliance requirements
  • Understanding of TSA, AES, FMC, Customs, and other international shipping regulations
  • Experience using CargoWise or similar freight forwarding software platforms preferred
  • Excellent customer service, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple shipments simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to coordinate effectively with customers, overseas agents, carriers, truckers, warehouses, and customs brokers
  • Knowledge of nationwide ports, airports, CFS stations, and transportation networks
  • Established relationships with carriers, CFS stations, truckers, and logistics partners are a plus
  • Proficient computer and administrative skills with the ability to maintain accurate shipment and financial records

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate end-to-end international air and ocean import and export shipments from origin through final delivery
  • Receive and execute shipment instructions from agents and customers
  • Reserve cargo space and place bookings with overseas agents, airlines, steamship lines, co-loaders, and approved trucking providers
  • Coordinate with internal and external customs brokerage teams to facilitate customs clearance and resolve exams, holds, and other issues
  • Obtain, create, review, and distribute all required shipping documentation, including HAWB, MAWB, HBL, MBL, ISF, 7501, commercial invoices, packing lists, arrival notices, and related documents
  • Track and trace shipments, monitor flight and vessel status, and proactively communicate shipment updates, delays, and exceptions to customers and stakeholders
  • Coordinate CFS handling, devanning, warehousing, and final delivery arrangements as needed
  • Secure freight releases prior to storage charges and ensure timely cargo movement
  • Work closely with carriers, overseas agents, truckers, warehouses, and customs brokers to ensure smooth operations
  • Negotiate rates, prepare customer quotes, and maintain accurate financial and shipment records
  • Ensure accurate billing, invoicing, file costing, claims processing, and margin control
  • Resolve shipment discrepancies, operational issues, and customer requests in a timely and professional manner
  • Be aware of compliance with Customs regulations, TSA requirements, AES filings, FMC regulations, SOPs, and other applicable compliance standards
